While many critics believe that Jermain Taylor will take down Spinks, we all know from fights such as the Buster Douglas vs Tyson that the underdog sometimes prevails. Or will this fight be like the Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The 3-Time World Champion Lennox Lewis took down a tired and sluggish Mike Tyson in the 8th round who was knocked out by a perfectly timed right hand of Lennox Lewis. The Lennox vs Tyson fight was first reported as the highest-grossing event in pay-per-view history, generating $106.9 million from 1.95 million buys in the USA, but now comes after the Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Oscar De La Hoya which took place last week. The event grossed $120 million in revenue.
While many critics believe that Jermain Taylor will take down Spinks, we all know from fights such as the Buster Douglas vs Tyson that the underdog sometimes prevails. Or will this fight be like the Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Oscar De La Hoya fight where the WBC junior middleweight title was taken from Oscar by a split decision?
Either way, while you’re preparing yourself for Jermain Taylor and Cory Spinks you should also be looking forward to Kelly Pavlik facing Edison Miranda in what is one of the night’s most anticipated bouts. According to sources Pavlik stated, “Me and Miranda is what everybody is talking about. People are tired of seeing Taylor fight the guys he’s fighting. Taking nothing away from Cory Spinks, he’s a great, great fighter – but he’s not a middleweight.”
Miranda on the other hand is challenging Taylor’s status as a middleweight champion. During a conference on Thursday, Taylor came wearing a gray lightweight suit yelling in a microphone, “Dress up! Come to the press conference looking like a champion – which I am. Nobody else dressed up to impress the crowd, look good for the sport of boxing. That’s why I’m No. 1. I look like a champ, I want to be a champ.”
“I’m not to be played with, man. I’m in boxing trying to make boxing better. With all the hoopla and the meanness … you don’t have to do all that to go in there and win. But you know, enough is enough,” Taylor added.
Lou DiBella, president of DiBella Entertainment and promoter for Jermain Taylor is expecting an exciting night of boxing for the fight at FedEx Forum. “Memphis will be electric for the great show and the entire weekend will be a celebration. I’m excited that tickets are moving so well,” said DiBella.
Like Lou DiBella, Jermain Taylor is just as excited and is glad the fight will be in Memphis because it is close to both of the fighter’s hometowns.
