It seems that Memphis has come down with the 'Blue Flu,' at least for over 500 Memphis police officers that have called in sick.
According to multiple sources including the Mayor himself, over 550 police officers have called in sick within one week's time in what is being called the 'Blue Flu.'
With that many officers off sick, the department is down about 25% of its total police staff.
Reportedly, the 'Blue Flu' had already been predicted after the city voted to cut health benefits of public servants.
Along with the cuts, there is also an apparent hike in health care premiums for city employees as much as 24%, reports say.
Meanwhile, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office has stepped in to fill-in for all of the officers out sick which some people have speculations that the possible overtime could match the same cost or even cost more than if the regular officers were on-duty.
