Memphis rapper Meechy Meech killed in double homicide in New Orleans

The hip hop community in Memphis, TN is mourning the loss of 29 year-old Demekrtic Whitfield-Anderson, also known as Memphis rapper Meechy Meech, who was shot and killed in a double homicide that took place in New Orleans metro area a day before New Year’s Eve.

Demektric Trammell “Meechy Meech” Whitfield-Anderson, along with Tacara Moss-Williams, 25, were both killed in gunfire that erupted on Monday, December 30th, around 5:30AM in Metairie in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, a part of the New Orleans metropolitan area. A third person, an unnamed woman, was also with Whitfield-Anderson and Williams during the shooting but wasn’t harmed.

One New Orleans man, Garard “Herc” Achelles, 27, has been booked with 2-counts of second degree murder in the shooting deaths of Whitfield-Anderson and Williams, reports NOLA.

Two other men are wanted in the connection with the double homicide.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of Glenn ‘Ace’ Lemon, 30, of Jefferson Parish, and Jason ‘Jay’ Thomas, 21, of New Orleans, who are both wanted on two counts of second degree murder.

According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, the motive behind the shooting allegedly involved a drug deal gone wrong. The Sheriff’s Office say the three (Whitfield-Anderson, Williams and the unnamed woman) all were staying in a Super 8 Motel when they left to meet up with another party at an apartment complex a few blocks away from the motel after a phone call.

Authorities say then Whitfield-Anderson was involved in an argument while the man stood on the side of the driver’s door of the black Dodge Charger they rode in. At some point, another man approached the other side and allegedly began shooting out of nowhere at them in the car.

Whitfield-Anderson fled in the car as they were being shot at. He sped away driving through a fence near the motel. Williams is believed to have died in the car while Whitfield-Anderson later died in the East Jefferson General Hospital.

Anyone with information or tips is asked to call Detective Sgt. Eddie Klein or Detective Thomas Gai at 504-364-5300 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
