Rapper Mr Del’s manager confirms multi-million dollar deal with Universal Distribution

Former Three 6 Mafia member, Mr Del’s manager contacted Memphisrap.com by phone and confirmed that the Christian hip hop artist has indeed signed a multi-million dollar deal with Universal Distribution.

Earlier Wednesday, Mr Del’s manager, Lawrence Haywood, contacted Memphisrap.com by phone and has confirmed that the Christian hip hop artist has indeed signed a multi-million dollar deal with Universal Distribution.

As reported Tuesday on MemphisRap.com, the former Three 6 Mafia member and Grammy nominee, Mr Del, inked a distribution deal with the company Universal Distribution which according to Haywood, the deal was closed mid July in link with Universal’s “christian link” which is not necessarily a new Christian rap division of the company but it’s a working link with Christian rap artists such as beginning now with Mr Del. Whether or not this will lead to more signings of Christian rap acts, only time can tell.

According to Haywood, Mr Del had been under the magnifying glass or watchful eye of Universal’s A&R for more than a year before this newly inked deal was closed and they’re looking to mature somewhat “like Kanye’s Jesus Walks.”

Maybe over 10 years ago, if you would have told then hardcore-lyric slanging rapper and Three 6 Mafia member, Mr Del, he needs to be more positive, then you probably would have gotten a big laugh or maybe an even worse response. But today, now an obvious rising Christian rapper still with hardcore lyrics but with just a different core than before, it is quite clear that Mr Del is breaking down the Industry stigma that Christian rap would never get anywhere.

Maybe it’s why Mr Del entitled his latest album “Hope Dealer” because to himself and to many other positive rap acts, you have to have hope and Mr Del is ready to deal it. Now with the newly signed deal, this has definitely got to be a sign of hope for Christian rappers and the popular genre “Christian Rap,” referred to commonly as “Holy Hip-Hop.”

Mr Del’s “Hope Dealer” featuring Canton Jones, W.O.G. (Women of God), Kirk Whalum, Fabo and others was released in June 26, 2007.

Previous releases by Mr. Del include “Crunk Soul” (May 2007), “Holy South: Kingdom Crunk” ft. Gangsta Boo (June 2006), “The Future” (Aug 2005), “Holy South: World Wide” (Aug. 2004), “Da Takeover” ft. Kia Shine (Sept. 2003), “Church Age” (March 2003), “Enter the Light” (Sept. 2000) and “2nd Coming” (July 2000).

Definitely keep an eye out for Mr. Del and his signature DMG label (Dedicated Music Group) as this new deal should surely bring more Christian rap to the forefront.
