Rapper Vanilla Ice Released From Jail, Faces Domestic Battery Charge

Rapper Vanilla Ice has been released from jail after allegedly hitting and kicking his wife on Thursday at their home in Palm Beach County, Florida.

Rapper Vanilla Ice born Robert Matthew Van Winkle, 40, has been released from jail after allegedly hitting and kicking his wife on Thursday at their home in Palm Beach County, Florida. His wife Laura, reportedly called police stating that her star husband and rapper Robert Van Winkle was kicking and hitting her.

When police found Vanilla Ice about two blocks away on his motorcycle and brought him back to their home, his wife Laura had changed her accusations by saying she had only been pushed by him.

Vanilla Ice told the deputy he and his wife had been arguing since Wednesday and he left their house to defuse the situation and denied pushing her.

Laura was not injured according to her arrest report, but stated to officers that she wanted to get a divorce from him.

At court, the couple's neighbor, Frank Morales, stated he was there during the alleged battery and it was merely a verbal argument.

Reportedly the argument was over a bedroom set his wife Laura had went out and bought.

"He's a nice guy, a good father and friend," Morales said outside of court. "It was just a misunderstanding."

Meanwhile, Vanilla Ice told police that his wife is bipolar and, despite being on medication, tends to get irrational and argumentative, according to the police report. Before the police arrived, Laura had allegedly thrown a picture frame off of their balcony to the ground below, where it shattered near their children, he said.

Even so, the rapper was ordered by a Florida court to stay away from his wife following his arrest for domestic battery and to only communicate with his children as long as neighbor Frank Morales accompanies him. Judge Nancy Perz told Vanilla Ice that he could only contact his wife, Laura Van Winkle, via telephone.

Following court, the rapper was allowed to go home to pick up a few belongings according to reports.

In 2001, Vanilla Ice was arrested for pulling his wife's hair after they got into an argument as they drove on Interstate 595. He plead guilty to charges of disorderly conduct, and was sentenced to probation and ordered to attend family therapy sessions.

Vanilla Ice is most popular for his 1990 hit music single "Ice Ice Baby," but since has recently made appearances on VH1's hit series The Surreal Life, The Surreal Life: Fame Games and on Ty Murray's Celebrity Bull Riding Challenge on CMT.

The rapper has had multiple albums released since the 1990 album "To The Extreme" which featured single "Ice Ice Baby" including Extremely Live (1991), Mind Blowin (1994), Hard to Swallow (1998) and latest album "Platinum Underground" which was released in 2005.
