The Saints Come Marching In This Week for the COGIC Convocation

Several leading names in Gospel music are scheduled to attend this year’s festivities such as Karen Clark Sheard, The Clark Sisters, The Winans, Donnie McClurkin, Ty Tribbett, Kim Burrell, and others.

If you live in Memphis, you at least know somebody that knows somebody who is a member of the Church of God in Christ. It is the most dominant religious organization in the area and the entire denomination is celebrating its centennial year in Memphis, TN, which has been the site of the convocation since its inception.

COGIC, Inc., which is the largest Pentecostal Christian denomination in the US and is one of the largest denominations worldwide, with established churches in more than 60 countries. It is expected for 50-75,000 delegates to be in the city throughout the week for religious services, business meetings, and musical celebrations.

Several leading names in Gospel music are scheduled to attend this year’s festivities such as Karen Clark Sheard, The Clark Sisters, The Winans, Donnie McClurkin, Ty Tribbett, Kim Burrell, and others.

This is the first Holy Convocation since the death of its previous presiding bishop G. E. Patterson who passed away in March of this year. First Assistant Bishop Charles E. Blake of West Angeles Cathedral in Los Angeles has since taken the reigns of Presiding Bishop, a title which is up for grabs during the 2008 COGIC elections.
