Duncan’s Contract Extension, Romo’s Pay Raise, Titans and Other Sports Updates

San Antonio Spurs’ 9-time All-Star Tim Duncan inks 2-year $40-million contract extension, Dallas Cowboys’ Quarterback Tony Romo signed with the team through 2013, Alex Rodriguez a free agent, and Tennessee Titans signs a new one.

San Antonio Spurs’ 9-time All-Star and 3-time NBA league MVP, Tim Duncan, just inked a 2-year $40-million contract extension this week. This is in addition to the 31-year old’s 3-year deal, which will keep him with the 2007 championship team through 2012.

Quarterback Tony Romo, the Dallas Cowboys’ franchise boy, just signed with the team through 2013 on last Tuesday. The new deal gives Romo 6 years with the team for $67-million, $30-million of which is guaranteed. It’s not like the Cowboys are just throwing money away, though. Romo currently leads the NFC in touchdowns and passing yards.

Speaking of throwing money away, Alex Rodriguez, formerly of the New York Yankess, opted out of the last three years left on his $179-million contract with the team. Needless to say, A-Rod was not a fan-favorite in New York during his 3-year tenure, mainly because he failed to produce winning numbers during the postseason and probably because of his (alleged) prima donna attitude. But, that’s not stopping the Angels, Dodgers, or Mets from considering the free agent. Rodriguez is, however, one of the most phenomenal players in baseball. His numbers surpass those of his ex-BFF and teammate Derek Jeter, who is arguably one of the best players in the game. I’m not sure if that makes him worthy of being the highest paid athlete on earth, but I do know that whatever team acquires him better be ready for one helluva season!

The Tennessee Titans signed free agent linebacker Jeremy Cain on Tuesday. The former UMass Minuteman is slated to replace long-snapper Ken Amato who suffered a severe knee injury during the Titans win against the Raiders on last Sunday.
