Rapper Eve Pleads Not Guilty To Recent DUI Charge

Eve’s facing a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted. Her next court date is scheduled for June 28, 2007 at the Metropolitan Branch Courthouse.

Hip-Hop rapper Eve “Jihan Jeffers”, 28, known for her association with the Ruff Ryders, plead not guilty to misdemeanor drunken driving charges stemming from a traffic accident in Hollywood last month. Tuesday the rapper/actress did not attend her arraignment, but made a plea on the behalf of her attorney (Matthew Johnson) which was confirmed by the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office spokesman Nick Velesquez.

The rap artist was arrested on April 26, after her gold Maserati ran into a center divider on Hollywood Boulevard in the wee hours of the morning. The rapper wasn’t injured in the crash, but was booked only on suspicion of DUI after failing a Breathalyzer test at the scene of the accident for a blood-alcohol level above .08 and failure to provide proof of insurance. She was later released on bail for $30, 000 and briefly visited by Sean Penn prior to her release.

In related news, Eve left Aftermath and signed with Geffen Records on April 16, 2007. The rapper is also set to release her latest album “Here I Am”, which comes out August 7, 2007. Her first single from the album “Tambourine” is making its round on the radio airwaves and the internet. In a recent interview the rapper stated that she will be offering something new to her fans on her album which will include tracks of her singing. You can also catch the rapper featured on Kelly Rowland’s (Destiny Child’s) single “Like This” off her solo album titled “Ms. Kelly”.

Last, Eve did have her own sitcom for three season titled “Eve” which was aired on UPN, the show was later cancelled in May of 2006. Besides rapping and acting, she is also an entrepreneur with the clothing line “Fetish”.
