SEA Highlights: La Chat, DJ Drama, Jelly Roll, Trae, Nakia Shine and more

This year's 2007 Southern Entertainment Awards, the 4th Annual Show, had many many highlights but there were a select few which stood out amongst the others at this year's awards show held at the Grand Casino Event Center on January 28, 2007.

This year's 2007 Southern Entertainment Awards, the 4th Annual Show, had many many highlights but there were a select few which stood out amongst the others at this year's awards show held at the Grand Casino Event Center on January 28, 2007.

At the beginning of the show the audience, which came to the event, seemed to be more interested in what was outside of the Grand Casino Event Center than what was inside as tons of people were posted in the lobby of the center to network, speak with and pose for Television media and simply mix and mingle. But with due time as the show began the crowd outside the theatre, though never completely dwindling, began to pour over into the Event Center.

Out of performances, La Chat lit up the SEA stage with a shining performance this year which stood out amongst most other performances. The rap music artist La Chat, whose hits include "Chicken Head" and "Baby Mama," came with a leading performance of the night for the Southern Entertainment Awards that was compared to few. The Memphis based female rapper came ready to entertain sporting her new sexy body (which you can tell she's been working hard on) and sexy backup dancers who shaked it to the excitement of the crowd. The luscious new La Chat rapped a couple of tracks from her new album Bad Influence and it was a more than bright performance that lit the stage almost near on fire. The men in the crowd were literally on the edge of their seats as La Chat and her dancers pleased their eyes and ears with the hot performance!

As far as who dominated with receiving the most awards, that would be no one other than DJ Drama with a total of 3 awards: Mix-tape DJ of The Year, Drama - Gangsta Grillz for Best Mix-tape Series / Vol and Drama - I Told U So (featuring Yo Gotti) for Speciality (Best Of) Mix-tape. Following were B-Lord, DJ Chuck T and DJ Smallz, all with 2 awards. A full list of winners are available online, at MemphisRap.com or at the official SEA website at www.SouthernEntAwards.com.

Other significant highlights would have to be Rap-A-Lot/Asylum rapper Trae who brought on over 70 people onto the stage as he performed giving props to rapper Jody Breeze of rap group Boyz N Da Hood. Rapper Jelly Roll out of Nashville, TN was another most memorable moment for calling out an audience member who made a remark to him and the rapper challenged him or anyone else to battle rap for $10,000, but the freestyle battle never jumped off due to the live taping and time schedule of the awards. Additional highlights included performances by Cadillac Don and J. Money, Mr. Sche, Gangsta Boo, Jody Breeze and Nakia Shine.

Now, as far as the overall show, video editors may have a lot on their plate editing out profanity to make it fit for TV, yet still this was a great awards show and undoubtedly has become one of the South's hottest current Industry and celebrity events.

The Southern Entertainment Awards is expected to air on CW sometime late February or early March. Meanwhile, look for video clips to become available at MemphisRap.com, media sponsor for 2007's 4th Annual Southern Entertainment Awards, in the coming week.
