The Fulton County Police Swat Team have busted in and arrested DJ Drama "Tyrie Simmons," DJ Don Cannon "Donald Cannon" and others of Aphilliates Music Group in their downtown Atlanta offices Tuesday evening. The complex building that was raided is a location where other studios and print labels operated within the building as well, sources told MemphisRap.com but apparently the swat team went in only after DJ Drama and his crew. The Recording Industry Association Of America's (RIAA) Anti-Piracy Unit were reported to have been watching the DJs for sometime, and decided to infiltrate the groups' alleged illegal bootlegging operation. Everything from CD's, digital recording equipment, computer laptops and luxurious cars where confiscated including a Lamborghini, BMW and the official Aphilliates' wrapped vehicle.
Police are looking to charge DJ Drama and anyone involved with several felony charges. DJ Drama had more than a couple of other upcoming Gangsta Grillz projects in store, a source told MemphisRap.com via phone Tuesday night. Sources also told MemphisRap.com that DJ Drama charges anywhere from $6,000 or more to do a Gangsta Grillz project and reports state that more than $250,000 worth of bootlegged CDs were confiscated alone.
"The only conclusion I can come up with is that he was making the Gangsta Grillz albums.... and he had the masters. But when you think of DJ's you know DJ Drama is on top, you never heard of a DJ Clue or a DJ KaySlay or any other DJ's having this kind of problem. But if that was how he was making his bread then that is f**ked up," the source told MemphisRap.com.
