Police locate SUV possibly linked to Denver Broncos’ Darrent Williams’ Murder

Reports state that at least 14 shots were fired at the stretch Hummer limousine and the two passengers that accompanied Darrent Williams were wounded in the drive-by. Since then, investigators have obtained a warrant to search the SUV he was killed in and have been questioning people who were at the nightclub he visited before being murdered.

Detective Virginia Quinones stated that “numerous people that could possibly be witnesses and people that definitely are witnesses, and we will continue to do so because we continue to receive information.”

A 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe matching the license plate used in the shooting was stated to have been found Thursday in a remote neighborhood were empty lots and industrial construction sites where covered with snow on the east side of Denver. The Tahoe had been spray-painted black on all sides and the top was still white. The plates on the rear of the vehicle had also been spray painted, but the front has still untouched.

The vehicle is stated to have belonged to Brian K. Hicks of Denver who is already jailed on unrelated charges. Brian K. Hicks, 28, is said to have been in jail since Nov. 9 on a charge of possessing drugs with intent to distribute. He also is accused of shooting at a woman who was later killed a week before she was to testify against him. Hicks was in custody the day of the shooting, but police want to know who was using the vehicle in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day. He has been called a “Gang Member” in recent reports by prosecutors.

“It will definitely be searched and inventoried very thoroughly, but I do not know if that has yet been done,” Quinones said.

Friday, a public viewing for Williams took place in his hometown of Forth Worth, Texas. Darrent Williams funeral will be Saturday at Great Commission Baptist Church. The Denver Broncos plan to charter a flight to attend the funeral.

The NFL stated that it will be returning a $15,000 fine levied against Williams for arguing with an official in a Nov. 19 game against San Diego. League spokesman Greg Aiello said the money would be turned over to the Broncos to return to Darrent Williams’ family.

Currently the Denver Crime Stoppers is offering its ‘standard cash reward’ of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
