VH1 set to honor rap and hip-hop pioneers

VH1 is setting up to have an annual Hip-Hop Honors celebration to honor pioneers of rap and hip-hop.

VH1 is setting up to have an annual Hip-Hop Honors celebration to honor pioneers of rap and hip-hop. Some of those being honored at the Oct. 7 show in New York will be Ice Cube, the Wu-Tang Clan, Afrika Bambaataa, Russell Simmons, Rakim, Beastie Boys and the late Eazy E.

In related news, artist Lil Kim will be performing for the first time since being released from prision in a live perforrmance tribute to the female rapper MC Lyte, who is best known for songs in the 1990s like “Lyte as a Rock,” “Poor Georgie” and “Ruffneck.”
