Shelby County deputy wins $10 million judgment from rapper Tab ‘Turk’ Virgil

Chris Harris, the Shelby County sheriff’s deputy that was shot back in Jan. 26, 2004, at 2740 Hickory Villa in Memphis, TN has won a $10 million civil judgment against rapper Tab ‘Turk’ Virgil, a member of The Hot Boys recording group out of New Orleans. Turk was convicted of shooting Harris four times during a routine drug raid.

Deputy Harris was shot in the face, stomach and both legs in the raid in the Hickory Hill-area apartment in Memphis where ‘Turk’ was staying with friends.

Turk, 25, was convicted of criminal charges in federal and state courts and has prison sentences totaling 22 years.

Harris, 31, has a wife and three children and has undergone three surgeries, including one in which a bone from his hip was used to repair his fractured jaw. Once a member of the department’s SWAT team, Harris now works with an investigative unit in the sheriff’s department.

At the time of the shooting Turk had just finished recording his third solo album, Penitentiary Chances.
