In a recent article in the Commercial Appeal, Memphis Sound's Memphis Car Audio mixtape CD entitled Street Hospitality featuring local rappers P Smoov, Al Kapone featuring 8 Ball, Nikki Boo, Kristyle, David Banner and Lil Nunu, gets its props for setting new marketing trends for the local music market such as it's obvious aligning with local family-owned company, Memphis Car Audio. "It's original and very uniquely American," says lifelong Memphian, Fulmer, 42, of Memphis Car Audio.
Over 15,000 CDs were giving away and according to Record producer Antonio '2 Shay' Parkinson (read recent interview on MemphisRap.com) of Shay-Dawg Entertainment and member of the Shelby County Music Commission board, the concept which he brought was to take 90 percent local artists and surround them with major label artists. "We did a call for submissions. We got about 200 to 300 CDs," Parkinson said. Local deejay Freddy Hydro was brought on board to do the mixing.
"We chose what we thought was hot and it worked. We helped break new artists out of Memphis. Now they have 15,000 people hearing them."
