Memphis’ Best Kept Secret, Rapper Skinny Pimp Is Ready To Roll Onlock Records/Grandstand Entertainment

(New York, NY)…. The fertile ground of Memphis entertainment has unleashed another native son onto the music scene, in the person of prolific rapper Skinny Pimp. Considered the South’s biggest secret, the Memphis Kingpin is the next Southern wordsmith to bring his down-home crunk rhymes and dynamic delivery to the national forum.

Skinny Pimp’s newest CD, Tha Classic, will be released in April 2004 on Onlock Records/ Grandstand Entertainment, which is distributed by RED Distribution, a division of Sony Music. Onlock Records, the brainchild of former New Orleans Saints pro football player Jamie “JD” Drummond, is proud to team up with Grandstand Entertainment, to launch Skinny Pimp’s national foray into the hip-hop scene. Says JD, “I’m excited both about our affiliation with Grandstand Entertainment, as well as about introducing our exciting local star Skinny Pimp to hip-hop fans outside of Memphis.” New York-based Grandstand Entertainment, helmed by industry veteran Ken Levy, who was Senior Vice President of Creative Services at Clive Davis’s Arista Records for 17 years, deals in a variety of musical genres and got involved with Onlock Records because their beliefs are similar–to release music and artists which they feel passionately about.

A former lyricist for fellow Memphis rapsters Three 6 Mafia, Skinny Pimp has been upholding the long-held Memphis musical banner since the age of 14, when his rap talent made him a local underground favorite [more]. Skinny Pimp has been known as the inspiration behind much of the current smooth-talking Deep South rap.
