Layin Da Smack Down on the Billboard Charts

Well, it was a BIG week for rap music on the billboard charts. Although Bruce Springsteen tops the charts at #1, Nelly’s “Nellyville” and Eminem’s “The Eminem Show” are holding spots two and three, while Dirty South rap pioneer Scarface (of the Geto Boyz) scored a career-best opening at number four as his new album, “The Fix”, sold 160,000 copies.

Other chart-toppers were Trick Daddy’s “Thug Holiday” debuting at number six , selling 130,000 copies; the rap-heavy “XXX” movie soundtrack featuring songs by Big Tymers, Nelly and Lil’ Wayne which sold 76,000 copies at number 11 (the film itself took top honors at the box office with a $44.5 million opening); and last but not least Memphis’ own Three 6 Mafia affiliate Project Pat landing at number 12 one week on the charts, selling 68,000 copies of Layin’ da Smack Down.

On the Hip Hop/Rap charts Project Pat’s “Layin da Smack Down” is currently at number 5.
