Tonight (May 1st), the Memphis Music scene goes online and on-air through Craig Brewer’s $5 Cover on MTV Networks. MTV, AT&T and Craig Brewer, director of the Academy Award winning movie “Hustle and Flow,” have announced that “$5 Cover,” the documentary series of the modern Memphis music scene, will premiere on TV on Friday, May 1 at 11PM CST.

Everyone had a great time out at the 2009 South by Southwest (SXSW), especially rapper/songwriter and upcoming star of Hustle & Flow director Craig Brewer’s $5 Cover MTV.com web series, Al Kapone, who reached out to Memphisrap.com to plug the fans in to what they might have missed!
Througout the SXSW, Kapone was hosting exclusive video footage from the show where Hip Hop and Memphis Rap and R&B definitely had a big presence this year!

2009 is looking like a real good year for Memphis Music! At the beginning of the year, Memphis and Shelby County Music Commission (MSCMC) brought on former Senior VP of Promotions at Def Jam Music Group and President and CEO of the non-profit organization NABFEME, Johnnie Walker; both DJ Paul and Juicy J of Three 6 Mafia announced new solo projects dropping this year; Memphis took home multiple awards at the 2009 Southern Entertainment Awards; and now the highly anticipated series $5 Cover from director Craig Brewer is set to launch May 1st, the first day of the Memphis in May festival.
