Tennessee Senator, Democrats Push Higher Minimum Wage To Stop Criminal & Drug Activity

Minimum Wage

Tennessee Senator Reginald Tate, is pushing for a higher minimum wage saying $7.25 is not enough to support a family or make a living.

Tate and Tennessee Democrats are looking to push the minimum wage from $7.25 up to $9 to $12 per hour.

“It would boost all of the Industry..” says Senator Tate of Memphis, reports WREG.

“We need that little boost,” Senator Tate added.

As reported on MemphisRap.com, President Barack Obama feels the same as Tate that the minimum wage should be increased.

Meanwhile, Republican State Rep. Mark White of Shelby County says a higher minimum wage would kill the economy. White says, as a former business owner, raising minimum wage would cost the city jobs.

As far as Governor Bill Haslam, he thinks Tennessee will stay the same as far as this year and doesn’t see the higher minimum wage push getting much traction.

Tennessee is reportedly one of only five states without a minimum wage in place.
