A Milwaukee woman, that admitted to scouring a Hispanic neighborhood for a pregnant woman for more than two weeks and then kidnapping her victim, has been sentenced to life in prison.
Annette Morales-Rodriguez, 34, kidnapped 40 week pregnant Maritza Ramirez-Cruz, 23, by luring her and hitting her in a head with a baseball bat until she passed out. The murder plot was planned all because she wanted to give her boyfriend a son.
Morales-Rodriguez claims that she couldn’t carry a child and boldly lied to her boyfriend twice that she had a miscarriage. After her third lie, she decided to develop a plot and find an expecting mother who she could kill and then take the child she could pass off as her own.
Morales-Rodriguez’s gruesome murder turned into tragedy for both the mother and the unborn child.
According to reports, Morales-Rodriguez covered Maritza Ramirez-Cruz’ eyes and nose with duct tape and then placed plastic wrap around her head to suffocate the mother of three.
Morales-Rodriguez, who continued with her plot, then used a blade to cut Maritza Ramirez-Cruz’ stomach open similar to a C-section but from hip-to-hip. Once Morales-Rodriguez removed the baby from his mother’s womb, the baby was stillborn because he had died due to possible lack of oxygen following the murder of Maritza Ramirez-Cruz.
Morales-Rodriguez decided to call 911 and this is where things got interesting.
After thorough investigation, a medical examiner found evidence that showed the baby was not delivered naturally through the vagina. Upon examination of Morales-Rodriguez, it revealed she had not given birth.
Police would later discover the young mother brutally murdered in the basement of Morales-Rodriguez’ home.
On Thursday, Maritza Ramirez-Cruz’ husband Christian Mercadom, who moved his family from Arecibo, Puerto Rico to Wisconsin a couple of years ago, cried in court as Annette Morales-Rodriguez was sentenced to life in prison.
Annette Morales-Rodriguez will have no chance of getting parole after receiving two counts of first-degree intentional homicide in September.
