A list of more than 20 schools which include Fairley High, Hillcrest High, Mitchell High, Westwood High, Graceland Elementary, Graves Elementary, A. Maceo Walker Middle, amongst others, are among the Memphis City Schools who allegedly face possible closure.
A debate that has been on-going about flagged school closures has been causing great concern among residents and it wasn’t until now that a handwritten list of the alleged schools, which may face closing due to a consolidation, was obtained.
According to WMCTV News Channel 5, board member Martavius Jones, who sits on the Transition Planning Commission group, is disputing the list and believes the district cannot afford the extra schools which are remaining and have fewer children.
It’s unclear where News 5 obtained the list from, but the school district spokesperson stated presently there is no finalized list of school closures.
